Welcome to

Castleton Primary School and Children's Centre

Firstly, here is the curriculum we, as a school, must follow:

History at Castleton

At Castleton we want to provide pupils with a broad and engaging curriculum that sparks their interest in the past and inspires their motivation to learn. During their time at Castleton we want to give all of our pupils the chance to develop and build on key historical skills that will prepare them for the next steps in life. We strive to inspire pupils’ curiosity of the past and present by allowing them to ask questions, think critically and become analytical thinkers. We want to teach the children a sense of chronology, and through this we strive for them to develop a sense of identity and community through learning about the past and the impact on the present. We also want to provide an opportunity for the children to explore the history in our local area. We want to provide our pupils with memorable learning experiences to further enhance their learning and their understanding of History through exciting trips.

Year 2

Year 2 have been learning all about the first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong. They have been doing their own research by asking and answering questions about what happened and why it is such a significant event in history. The children looked at newspaper articles, non-fiction books and watched videos of the footage. They have also learnt about the history of space travel and what has developed since the first man on the moon.
