Welcome to Year 1!
We are so lucky to have a brilliant Year 1 team – Class 1R and Class 1V
In 1R we have Mrs Robertson (Class Teacher), Miss Lindley and Miss Hodgson.
In 1V we have Mrs Vedia (Class Teacher), Miss Lee and Mrs Bosworth.
Key Information
Our PE lessons are on a Monday (indoor PE) and Thursday (outdoor PE). Please remember to come wearing PE kit on those days.
This term we are focusing on settling the children back into school. We will make sure to have plenty of free time to explore the classrooms as well as enjoying outdoor break times and lunchtimes. We are focusing on our three school values: kindness, curiosity and courage.
In maths we are looking at numbers 1-10 and 10-20. We are going to develop our number sense by practicing to count both forwards and backwards. In phonics we are meeting our new groups and teachers and learning all the sounds we need to read simple words and stories. We will learn all about the United Kingdom in Geography and our human bodies in science. In PSHE we are looking at how people celebrate different events and in RE we are learning about how we care for others.
It is going to be a wonderful term to settle back into our school routine.
We hope everyone is refreshed after a lovely half term holiday! This term we will continue learning our phonics every day during classes and interventions. We are already seeing the positive impacts our phonics work on our reading and writing. Everyone is learning how to write simple sentences using full stops, finger spaces and capital letters!
In maths we will start learning subtraction which will require us to count backwards, therefore we will try to do lots of counting in school and at home! We love counting games! We will even start learning about numbers 11 to 20.
In Geography we will continue to learn about the United Kingdom and do some role play about visiting some exciting capital cities such as London, Belfast, Edinburgh and Cardiff. In science we will continue exploring the human body and senses and will even begin to look at the seasons and how they change over time. Especially as we go from Autumn to winter. In Art, we will be learning all about print making. We will practice it using different colours, lines and forms.
Lastly in RE will look at messages from God and in PSHE we will focus on being me. PE will be pilates on Monday’s for our indoor sessions and we will have our outdoor PE lessons with Mr Young as usual.
