Welcome to

Castleton Primary School and Children's Centre

Year 1 How to support your child’s maths learning at home.

To help with children’s learning, we would encourage them to consolidate their understanding of these facts and mental strategies in the table below. This selection builds solid mathematical foundations of their learning to come.

A strong understanding of early number can support children’s school learning and allow them to access the more complex elements of mathematics.

As is done in school, the teaching of number concepts should be done through play. You may see examples of this type of activity on Evidence Me. We encourage you to count forwards and backwards with your child, sing number songs and rhymes and role play mathematical scenarios (for example playing shops) and generally talk about more/less, size and shapes of objects regularly.
