Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) It is estimated that approximately 10% of children and young people have ongoing speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) which create barriers to communication or learning in everyday life. SLCN includes difficulties in one or more of the following areas: - Attention and listening - Comprehension - Expression - Speech sounds - Social Interaction - Stammering A child’s speech, language and communication skills can impact on their learning, confidence to communicate and overall wellbeing. To ensure each child can reach their full potential, Speech and Language Therapists take a holistic approach to intervention and always endeavour to work collaboratively with parents, educators and other professionals supporting the child.
